Have children and adolescents draw pictures and tell stories about the following topics that are rich in Cajun culture and history:

  • Draw a picture of an Acadian house or farm in Nova Scotia
  • Draw a picture of English soldiers bringing the Acadians to boats
  • Draw the Acadian ships traveling from Nova Scotia
  • Draw a picture of a Louisiana Bayou

Discussion:

Make an analogy between the evacuees and their ancestors. Ask the youngsters to brainstorm –

  • What do you think helped your ancestors when they had to move from Nova Scotia to Louisiana?
  • What do you think worried them most about not knowing where they were going to live?
  • What kind of advice do you think your ancestors would give you today?
