NOTE: Presenting at the TLC Assembly fulfills a requirement of Consultant Supervisor Certification. (In leiu of presenting you may fulfill this requirement by writing an article, commentary or review for the TLC Journal, Trauma and Loss: Research and Interventions.) You do not need to be in the Certification Program to apply to present.

Call for Presenters
TLC invites professionals who provide treatment services, specialized programs, trauma-specific resources, and those who conduct research specific to interventions for traumatized children to participate. Three-hour (half day) presentations available only.

Presenters will be expected to offer practical experience to help attendees increase their understanding, knowledge and skills in one of the particular areas of interest listed. Presentation must include responses and/or practices related to the unique characteristics of traumatic stress in children or adolescents.

Areas of interest include intervention approaches, research, and resource specific to:

  • Posttraumatic Growth
  • Resiliency
  • Complex Cumulative Trauma: Research/Interventions
  • School-Based Programs
  • Community-Based Programs (hospitals, mental health agencies, family services)
  • Interventions for Special Populations (special needs students, children immigrating from war torn countries, Native American Indians – other diverse populations).
  • Interventions using Expressive Therapies/Interventions
  • Interventions for other trauma related behaviors (OCD like behavior, agoraphobic like behavior) or anxiety disorders – separation anxiety disorder, shyness, social phobia, agoraphobia, etc.
  • Research which supports practice (versus theory). Evidenced based research on interventions with traumatized children is limited at this time. Approaches, which have been field-tested and produced promising outcome data, will be accepted for consideration.

About the Childhood Trauma Practitioners Assembly

TLC’s Third Annual Childhood Trauma Practitioners Assembly will be held July 15-18, 2008 at the Macomb Intermediate School District’s Educational Service Center in Clinton Township, Michigan. The four-day Assembly will include 3 hour (180 minute) presentations that will give participants exposure to programs and practitioners working with varied populations and unique trauma situations. Handout information provided by all presenters will be copied to a CD so that each attendee will have information from all presenters. Participants will assemble on the last day for a three-hour exchange of information, intervention practices and recommendations related to advancing intervention practices, and resources. Responses will be developed into a formal working document for participants to use to encourage support from funding sources, service providers, administrators, legislative bodies and other institutions. Every participant will have access to this document. Attendance at the Assembly will fulfill Level II and Level III TLC Certification requirements.

Submission Guidelines

  • Presenters must assume responsibility for all travel, lodging and other Assembly related expenses.
  • Applicants must indicate any date or time constraints when proposal is submitted.
  • Persons whose presentations have been accepted must participate at the time scheduled or arrange to have the presentation delivered by an appropriate substitute. Speakers will be notified of scheduled presentation times at least 6 weeks prior to the first day of the assembly.
  • All workshop materials are expected to comply with confidentiality guidelines; individual case information needs to be confidential unless a release has been obtained from the individual whose case is presented.
  • Presenters & co-presenters are invited to attend the Assembly Workshop courses on the days they are not presenting at no charge, but are required to formally register so we can reserve their place in the class.
  • Presenter handout materials for participants must be submitted on disk 4-weeks before their presentation. Materials will be duplicated and made available on a CD for attendees.
  • An individual’s name may be listed on only 2 proposals.Exceptions may be made for individuals invited to participate in one or more official functions.
