Thank you for the training during the first week of November. The information and tools you provided were exceptional, practical, and very "user-friendly."

About the days and weeks after Katrina: Our school system was only out of school for five days, but when we returned, so did the "displaced students". The first week was a blur and I was totally overwhelmed by the number of new students (we enrolled about 35) and deeply saddened by their stories. I was also trying to deal with my own "hurricane losses". Since I do all of the scheduling, I was unable to take care of their immediate emotional needs. Just trying to place them in classes was difficult since we were already overcrowded and getting ready to hire a new 6th grade teacher before the hurricane. We eventually hired a Katrina evacuee from St. Bernard Parish! We spent several days trying to get school supplies and uniforms for the students.

We thank God for the outpouring of love from all over the country to provide those things and more. One month after the hurricane, I was able to begin a "Katrina Group" in which we have worked on dealing with loss, grief, and feelings. Although the group was halfway through their 10 sessions when I received the training, I was able to use the materials to finish up. Brave Bart was an excellent tool as well as the drawing activities.
