For Ages 12 and up: When Loss is a Result of Suicide

Losing someone because he or she committed suicide is also very hard to deal with. When this happens people feel very sad. It is hard to understand why this happened. You may even feel angry with the person, and this is completely normal. Others may feel guilty and think that they could have done something to prevent the suicide. Some people may wonder if they caused the person’s death. But, these things aren’t true. Sometimes feelings and ideas like this are just a way of trying to make sense of something that’s difficult to understand. After this type of traumatic loss people may be confused or even scared that it might happen to someone else, or even themselves. These reactions really mean you need to talk to someone about your worries.
