Writing a Book

For Ages K - 4th Grade. (Especially good for foster parents)

Make a book for children about the recent events in their life. Suggest: “Let’s make a book about (child’s name).” Write a sentence on each page. Have your child add an additional sentence on each page. Name the book, “(child’s name)’s Book”.

Example:

Page One:

_____ is a strong boy, or girl. (Add a sentence)

Page Two:

_____ likes books. (Add a sentence)

Page Three:

____ lived with his/her family. (Add a sentence)

Page Four:

One day someone took _____ away in a car. It was scary. (Add a sentence)

Page Five:

_____ visited a big building he/she had never seen before. (Add a sentence)

Page Six:

______ saw people he/she had never seen before. This was suprising. (Add a sentence)

Page Seven:

______ was taken to a house he/she had never visited before. Everything was so different. (Add a sentence)

Page Eight:

At this house, ______ met a new lady/man to take care of him/her. (Add a sentence)

Page Nine:

______’s new mommy/daddy reads to him/her. (Add a sentence)

Page Ten:

_______’s new mommy/daddy gives him/her a bath. (Add a sentence)

Page Eleven:

______’s new mommy/daddy tucks him/her into bed at night in his/her new bedroom. (Add a sentence)

Page Twelve:

________ is part of a new family that looks like this. (Add a sentence)

Page Thirteen:

Here is ______ smiling! (Add a sentence)

Feel free to change words and add extra pages when and where they fit into the story. Continue the story as new things happen. Read this book over and over with your child to help him/her understand what happened; to understand the sequence of events – the beginning, middle and end.
